So, how exactly does this kit work? To begin with, the LaserShield BSK13101 Alarm Starter Kit’s wireless detection unit acts like a fierce watchdog. Equipped with a cutting-edge passive infrared detection system, unwanted intruders will be detected as soon as they are within range. It can detect these intruders through a 110-degree sweeping pattern that extends up to 35 feet. This translates to about 1100 square feet of detection, thus protecting each nook in your home or office.
The unit detects intruders by sampling and constantly checking the ambient room temperature. Once an abnormality in the temperature pattern occurs—caused by the body heat of the intruder—the detection unit then sends the signal to the Master Alarm unit. The detection unit is very accurate and efficient, and once you’ve attached a Pet Shield to it, you’ll eliminate false alarms caused by pets.
Once a signal is detected, the Master Alarm unit takes care of the rest. Connected to a phone line, it immediately contacts the Rapid Response Monitoring Service (RRMS) to report incidents, and does so very quickly. In fact, after receiving the alarm signal, it takes 30 seconds for Lasershield to initiate a return call. This is very important as intruders work fast as well.
Other than contacting RRMS, the Master Alarm unit sends out a 105-decibel alarm upon detection. This confuses the intruder and deters them from continuing any further. The remote keychain’s panic button on the other hand can be immediately pressed for the same effect. Once pressed, the Master Alarm unit contacts the RRMS right away.
Those standard features aside, the Master Alarm unit is noteworthy for other things too. One of these is the User Call feature, which lets users check system status, arm or disarm the alarm or activate a microphone function using only their phones. Diagnosing the battery life of all the items in this kit is easy as well, since the Master Alarm unit reports low battery right away. Lastly, a backup battery ensures the kit will still work during a power outage.
