Metal Gear Solid 4 – hits one million copies in Europe!

Metal Gear Solid 4Officials from Konami Europe have revealed that the recently released PlayStation 3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has already sold over 1 million copies in Europe.

Following its global release on June 12th, the title immediately went to the top of most European charts and has so far shown strong second week sales – retaining the number one spot in the UK and other markets. As ever, though, no independent sales data is available for any of the software charts in Europe.

Konami Europe has also indicated that the limited edition version of Metal Gear Solid 4, including a making-of Blu-ray disc, soundtrack CD and “Old Snake” mannequin, has sold 25,000 units across Europe and is now all but sold out.

The game has proven even more successful in Japan, where it sold close to half a million copies in its first week and has had a significant impact on hardware sales, with the PlayStation 3 becoming the best selling console of the week.

“The Metal Gear Solid series has again proved its huge potential, and we are delighted with the fantastic response the game has enjoyed at retail,” commented Martin Schneider, sales and marketing director Germany for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.

“MGS4 is nothing short of a masterpiece – an epic conclusion to the Solid Snake story. We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback we have received from retail and consumers alike, and will keep satisfying their needs with updates to the game’s ‘Extra’ option, and via new content to Metal Gear Online,” he added.
